Opening celebration for the “Light on Lake” public art projections along East Lake Street. Features artist installations by Boo McCaleb, Erica Warren, and Rachel Quast. The party includes local food, music, and community engagement at Midtown Global Market, while the projections light up the surrounding Lake Street buildings.

Join us for a free community celebration kicking off Light on Lake, a four-night public art experience transforming the Midtown Global Exchange building into an outdoor gallery of light and color. Meet the artists behind the work, get a first look at their large-scale projection installations, and enjoy an evening of art, music, and community.

The Light on Lake Launch Party is free and open to the public, your RSVP helps ensure we provide the best experience possible for our guests!

About Light on Lake:

This summer, The Great Northern invited Minnesota-based artists to submit proposals for “Light on Lake,” a four-night public art experience that will transform East Lake Street into a large-scale moving projection installation. Our selected artists have created original artwork that will illuminate the walls and facades of East Lake Street businesses this winter.

In addition to creating original work, our selected artists led community workshops this fall, inviting neighbors and community members to share stories and ideas which were incorporated into the final pieces.

The Cultural Wellness Center warmly invites our cherished elders and the entire community to the Pan-African Kwanzaa Celebration at Midtown Global Market! Join us daily from Friday, December 26, through Wednesday, December 31, as we gather in a sacred space to honor our enduring wisdom, unbreakable spirit, and the guiding principles of freedom, unity, and resilience.

Rooted in elder knowledge and cultural tradition, this celebration weaves together storytelling, intergenerational activities, African performances, art, food, music, and more. Each day begins with the powerful Call of the Drums and uplifts one of the Kwanzaa principles—Unity, Self-Determination, Collective Work, and others.

The Cultural Wellness Center remains committed to honoring elder leadership, nurturing personal and collective healing, and strengthening community through culturally grounded practices.

Ramp and street parking are available. Ramp parking is located of of Lake Street and 10th avenue.
