Kwanzaa Day Two: Kujichagulia (Self-Determination)

Day one of the Kwanzaa celebration presented by @culturalwellnesscenter was fantastic! Day one of Kwanzaa is Umoja = Unity. Umoja emphasizes unity within families, communities, and the African diaspora. It is observed by lighting the first candle representing unity.

Day 2: Wednesday, Dec 27- Kujichagulia (Self -determination)- Celebrating and honoring Fathers, Brothers, Uncles and Sons

• 2:00 p.m. The ritual ceremony begins: Drumming, honoring Ancestors, description and explanation of the day with lighting of the candle.
• 2:15 p.m. Light meal
• 3:00 p.m. -3:30 p.m. Violinist Ernest Bisong performs on the Center Stage
• 3:30 p.m. Master Drummer Ghana Mbaye and navigators teaching songs, drumming, dancing, and storytelling in selected area. Children will practice African Drum and Dance class
• 3:45 p.m- 4:45 p.m Kids Corner Storytime with Sister Peace
• 3:45 p.m. – 4:45 p.m. Childrens African drumming and dance class
• 3:45 p.m. – 4:45 p.m. Testimonies from AGAPE MEN – Life During and After Prison – Center Stage

·         Content MUST be family friendly. 

No swearing, violent or vulgar language. No hate speech or political rants.

·         Performers must be 16+ years of age

·         Hand drums are allowed

·         Backing tracks are allowed

·         Instrumentals are allowed

·         Volume will be managed by the host.

·         No drum kits or extended jam sessions.

·         No amplifiers or extensive gear set up

·         No DJs.

·         Maximum of (2) performers at anytime.

The Twin Cities Record Show will be popping up at Midtown Global Market on Saturday, December 2 from noon-4 PM, located at 2980 S 10th Ave, Minneapolis.

Admission is free all day!

Do you have record albums, 45 RPM records, CDs or music memorabilia you'd like to sell? Bring them to the show and ask for Tim, and we're happy to look at them/set an appointment to view them.

The No Coast Craft-O-Rama will be going on in the Allina Commons space and will feature 80 vendors, so it's a perfect time to pick up things for holiday gifts or for you!

There will be a six-pack of vendors bringing you a great selection of record albums, CDs and music memorabilia.
