 "Nitil-Tzakal" is an expression in Maya Tzotzil that refers to the act of connecting and interweaving experiences.  Like a spiderweb or a traditional backstrap loom, to indigenous Maya Tzotzil artist Anton Vázquez, "Nitil-Tzakal" expresses his work as an artist -- to intertwine his vision and creativity across borders and cultures.

Anton Vázquez is the 2023 recipient of the Chiapas-in-Minnesota Residency, a program of (Neo)Muralismos de México, a Minnesota-based Mexican and Latino arts nonprofit.  Anton is a multimedia artist focused on collage, drawing, painting, and muralism.  Through his work, Anton shares the cosmology and creative spirit of the indigenous Maya Tzotzil people from the highlands of Chiapas, Mexico.

 Anton Vázquez will be at the Midtown Global Market Sunday, October 1 to Tuesday, October 3, painting an original pop-up mural creation.
